The Western Maine Community Chorus consists of volunteer members who come from across Western Maine and share a love of performing a diverse repertoire of traditional and contemporary choral music that reflects the spirit of the community. Their Spring 2026 concert featured sacred music, poetry in music, music & drama, hymns & spiritual, musical theatre, jazz, and popular music. Composers included Supply Belcher (1751-1836 from Farmington Maine, aka “The Handel of Maine”), Aaron Copland, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Paul Simon. It was fun to recognize eight folks that I know from different aspects of my life in Maine: my university, my farm share, and my church. And then there were all the folks I knew in the audience from the Historical Society, UMF, my neighborhood, and around town.
