I looked up at the television and there was someone in a cowboy hat talking about brisket. Yum!

Wait. I’m in Maine. What show is on television that is showing a cowboy talking about brisket?

Wait! Now he’s talking about Texas barbecue (BBQ). Turns out it was News Center Maine (WCHS-TV) doing a story on a restaurant in Portland that specializes in BBQ. And not just any barbecue, but Texas barbecue!

I obviously need to check this out, even if it is two hours away. I texted my fellow Texan-living-in-Maine, Lisa, and sent her the story saying, “We need to check this out.” Mother and I had a trip planned to Portland for errands, so Lisa and her clan met us at Terlingua Restaurant for a delicious meal of BBQ.

We had queso and chips before hand and ordered the Terlingua Barbecue Board: 3/4lb house-smoked meats, pickles, cornbread, honey butter, house BBQ sauce, and side salad.

The interior is several side-by-side buildings now connected, creating several rooms. We were in “The Corral” with embossed ceilings (not sure if they were painted tin or molded plaster), high tables, and big plate glass windows. Next door is the Terlingua Outpost with grab-n-go food and featuring kolaches. I have several Texas friends who are kolaches aficionados that need to visit and tell me if these are any good.

All in all, it was a great evening with precious friends and delicious food.
